Therapeutic diet number 5 is indicated for chronic diseases of the liver and biliary tract - hepatitis, cholecystitis, cirrhosis of the liver without the acute stage in the absence of concomitant diseases of the stomach and intestines.
The purpose of table number 5 is to promote the restoration of impaired liver function by the following effects:
- accumulation of glycogen in the liver;
- normalization of liver fat metabolism by limiting dietary fats, mainly refractory ones, as well as the introduction of lipotropic substances and vitamins;
- reducing the intoxication effect on the liver by regulating bowel function;
- stimulation of bile secretion;
- exclusion of foods that irritate the liver.
Diet number 5 includes a physiological norm of proteins, a slightly increased amount of carbohydrates, a moderate restriction of fats and the exclusion of foods rich in cholesterol. Compound:
- proteins - 80-100 grams;
- fats - 60-70 grams;
- carbohydrates - 450-500 grams.
Energy value - 2800-3000 kcal. The culinary processing of products by frying is excluded. Food products containing nitrogenous extractives, purines, oxalic acid, fat breakdown products - acroleins (obtained during frying) are contraindicated. The amount of table salt is 10-12 grams per day.

- Fresh bread, muffins, puff and fried dough products.
- Fatty meat, lard, fatty fish, salted fish, duck, goose, liver, brains, kidneys, sausages (most), smoked meats, mushrooms.
- Meat, mushroom and fish broths, green cabbage soup, okroshka.
- Fried eggs, hard boiled eggs, fried scrambled eggs, fatty and spicy snacks.
- Legumes, onions, garlic, radishes, radishes, spinach, sorrel, pickled foods, mustard, peppers, horseradish.
- Cream confectionery, chocolate, ice cream.
- Black coffee, cocoa, cold drinks.

- Soups on vegetable broths with the addition of cereals and pasta, dairy, fruit soups, borscht, beetroot soup, vegetarian cabbage soup.

- Milk sausages, doctor's sausage.
- Dairy products, cottage cheese, cheese - low-fat.

Diet number 5 involves frequent meals in small portions (5 times a day), as well as fluid intake in the amount of 1.8-2 liters per day.
