Nurse Performance Standards
Modern medical practice has its own standards. In other words, norms, models, standards, which should be guided by in daily work. The standards for the activities of a nurse are also defined - professional and ethical .
Professional standards are developed taking into account the activities of the health facility and its capabilities. When developing standards, the recommendations of supervisory authorities - local, territorial, national are taken into account. The standards for the professional activity of a nurse are approved after clinical trials and are periodically updated.
Mandatory conditions for the application of standards:
- the choice of standard is determined by the clinical situation;
- the level of medical care provided should correspond to the capabilities of the medical institution and the qualifications of the medical staff;
- the nurse must know and understand all the provisions of the standard, be able to put the standard into practice and justify all her actions;
- nurse performance standards - the basis for drawing up an individual patient care plan;
- the standard assumes the implementation of care in the minimum sufficient amount and in the shortest possible time;
- an essential condition of the standard is the timely call of doctors and the organization of medical consultations.
Nurse professional standards are divided into the following groups:
1. Standards of manipulations, or procedures, which contain the goals of the procedures, indications and contraindications to them, equipment and conditions for performing manipulations, description of the procedure: preparation, implementation, completion.
2. Patient care plan standards - reflect the basic level of high quality nursing care in a particular clinical situation.
3. Standards for the provision of emergency care at the pre-hospital, pre-hospital stage - a list of algorithms used in typical clinical situations.
Ethical standards for the activities of a nurse are a standard for the behavior of nursing staff. The basis of the standard of conduct is the "Nursing Code of Ethics", the principles of medical ethics and deontology , the philosophy of modern nursing.
