postheadericon Intramuscular injections in the thigh

Intramuscular injections into the thigh are performed when it is impossible to administer drugs into the buttock.

The principles for performing this manipulation are the same as for injections into the buttock, but there are some features.

Intramuscular injections into the thigh are made only in the upper third of the lateral surface. In the figure, the areas of injection of drugs into the femoral muscles are shaded.

Sequencing:

  • Washing and sanitizing the nurse's hands.
  • A set of the drug in a syringe in compliance with the rules of asepsis and antisepsis.
  • Squeezing air out of the syringe.
  • Giving a comfortable position to the patient - lying on his back or sitting on a chair - the leg is bent at the knee joint, with relaxed thigh muscles.
  • Double treatment of the surgical field with a cotton ball moistened with alcohol.
  • Intramuscular injections into the thigh are made with the capture of the tissues of the thigh in the fold in order to avoid damage to the periosteum by the needle. With the introduction of drugs into the femoral muscles, the risk of such a complication is higher than with injections into the gluteal muscle.
  • The introduction of the needle with a sharp, but not strong movement into the muscle. Leave 2-3 mm of the needle above the skin in case the needle breaks.
  • The introduction of the drug into the muscle by pressing on the plunger of the syringe, releasing the fold and holding the cannula of the needle.
  • Applying a cotton ball with alcohol to the injection site and removing the needle with a quick movement.

I recently did myself a course of injections. Some of the points that you have listed, I did not know. All the hips were bruised, bumps from undissolved medicine were felt, the hips hurt ... I read the rules on the Internet, your rules are more complete than I found then. I will bookmark your blog.

Brave woman! It is necessary to choose the right place, especially with repeated injections, so as not to get the needle into the seal. To minimize the risk of formation of seals, the solution must be injected slowly. And it's very painful. Especially when you do it yourself. I can't. If you really need to - in the buttock - easily. 😉

I have no living space on my buttocks. For many years I injected magnesia in 10 cubes, and of course, hardenings accumulated, and now, I have come to the conclusion that the drug simply does not go away. Without these injections, I feel very bad, and I am looking for an alternative to the buttocks. But, to be honest, I'm scared to stab in the thigh. I'm very afraid. When I think about it, horror seizes. Here I am suffering ... .. (((

Denis, so the drug is not suitable for you, or is there simply no place for injections, if you feel bad without magnesia? Maybe really pick up another drug? Magnesia itself is painful when administered intramuscularly, and if it is in the thigh, then it is doubly so. In general, magnesium sulfate and intravenous drip are prescribed, have you thought about such courses of treatment?

And you need to take care of the buttocks. If you very often take anything intramuscularly (especially magnesia, 10 ml at a time), you need to make half-alcohol (vodka) compresses, apply a cabbage leaf with honey, draw iodine nets. It’s even better to visit a physiotherapist - let him prescribe absorbable procedures - UHF, ultrasound, in general, whatever he sees fit.

      Health to you!

Hello! My friend put injections in her thigh more than half a year ago. Apparently somehow she didn’t deliver successfully, her thigh became numb. and what to do?

They say that you need to stab in the thigh at an angle. Is it so? I have small injections (1 cube each) of alflutop. Need to go deep
