Performing an intradermal injection
The intradermal injection prescribed by the doctor is most often a drug or allergic test. However, sometimes medicinal substances are also administered intradermally.
Before the manipulation, the nurse prepares for work in the treatment or vaccination room, as before performing intramuscular or intravenous injections. In addition to the uniform, gloves and a mask are required.
Equipment is also being prepared: 1 ml disposable syringes, trays, sterile cotton balls or napkins, containers with disinfectant solutions .
Intradermal injections are performed in the following areas of the body:
- the middle third of the inner surface of the forearm;
- the middle third of the outer surface of the shoulder;
- anterolateral surface of the thigh;
- subscapular region;
- lateral surface of the anterior abdominal wall.
The patient can be positioned in a standing, sitting or lying position when administering an intradermal injection. Depending on the area of injection and the condition of the patient.
When the medicine has already been drawn into the syringe in accordance with all the rules, the nurse processes the injection field. With a cotton ball moistened with 70% alcohol, a large area is wiped in the area of \u200b\u200bthe intended injection. The ball is retracted into the waste tray. The next ball, also moistened with alcohol, treats a smaller area of skin directly at the injection site. The second ball is also removed into the tray.
The patient's skin should dry out a little so that alcohol does not get into the injection wound. When performing skin tests, this can lead to a false or questionable result.
Next, the nurse directly performs the intradermal injection as prescribed by the doctor. The syringe is taken in the right hand, like a writing pen. In this case, the index finger is located on the cannula of the needle, the big one holds the piston, and the rest - on the syringe barrel.
With the left hand, the skin is captured in a small fold. It is important that large blood vessels do not pass on the skin where the intradermal injection will be carried out.
A syringe with a needle cut up at a very sharp angle, almost parallel to the skin, is inserted into the fold for 2/3 of the length of the needle. Place your left hand on the piston and inject the medicinal substance. If an injection of a medicinal substance is carried out, then a third ball with alcohol is taken, slightly pressed against the skin puncture site, and the syringe is removed.
When conducting intradermal tests, the needle is removed from the skin without a cotton ball. After the test, cotton balls are also not applied to the patient's skin.
After the manipulation, the used tools and material, as well as gloves with a mask, are immersed in containers with disinfectants.
