Putting ointment in the nose
Laying the ointment in the nose is a frequently prescribed procedure in otorhinological practice.
For a nurse, putting an ointment in the nose should not be difficult. However, as with any introduction of medicinal substances into the patient's body, one should remember the responsibility for the life and health of the patient.
Before the procedure, you should prepare:
- sterile tweezers;
- medicinal ointments;
- sterile gauze turundas;
- trays, containers with disinfectants .
Nasal ointment procedure
- The nurse is obliged to read the name of the ointment, to make sure that the patient is prescribed this drug.
- Inform the patient of the necessary information about the drug, make sure that there is no intolerance to the drug.
- then wash your hands and put on rubber gloves.
- The patient is seated in a sitting position with the head thrown back.
- Ointment is applied to gauze turunda.
- Carefully insert the turunda into the nasal passage and leave for 20-30 minutes. First, the ointment is placed in the right nasal passage, then in the left.
- After the time has elapsed, the turundas are removed with tweezers and immersed in a container with a disinfectant solution. Tweezers and used gloves are also placed immersed in containers with a disinfectant solution.
- After manipulation, the nurse washes her hands with antiseptic soap.
