Dependent Nursing Interventions
Dependent nursing interventions are performed by a nurse solely on the prescription of a doctor, recorded in the patient's medical history. Appointments can be both therapeutic and diagnostic.
The role of the nurse is to correctly follow the doctor's instructions in compliance with the rules of the sanitary and epidemiological regime, medical ethics and deontology. All nursing interventions are performed at step 4 of the nursing process .
Dependent nursing interventions. Examples
1. Manipulations:
- distribution of medicines to patients;
- carrying out all types of injections and infusions;
- laying ointment and instillation of drops in the eyes, nose, ear;
- carrying out cleansing and medicinal enemas;
- douching;
- collection of biological materials for laboratory research (blood, urine, feces, sputum, discharge from the eyes, nose, ear, etc.);
- taking smears from the pharynx and nose;
- measurement of lung capacity;
- measurement of muscle strength;
- taking a swab from the urethra;
- instillation of the urethra;
- the introduction of a suppository into the rectum, vagina.
- preparation of the patient for laboratory, X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopic examinations;
- determination of daily diuresis and water balance;
- urine collection according to the Addis-Kakovsky method;
- conducting a Zimnitsky test;
- collection of urine to determine the sugar content, bacteriological examination.
When a nurse performs dependent interventions, the doctor can observe her actions and the patient's condition. However, the presence of a doctor is not as necessary as with interdependent interventions with a doctor. In the absence of a doctor during the intervention, the nurse informs him about the patient's well-being.
